Spend the day touring specialty farms in scenic south Gippsland including lunch and tastings. Have fun while learning directly from the owners, who will be guide you through the intricacies of meat, wine and olive oil production to get a greater understanding of where and how these delights are produced.
The tour begins with morning tea at “Malabar Farm” – the home of Gippsland Food Adventures. Paul and Jenny O’Sullivan open the gates to their family farm of 640 hectares, running 1000 cattle and 5500 sheep, near Walkerville. Experience how premium grass fed beef and lamb is produced in an environmentally sensitive way.
Get close to the pasture reared animals to learn about the impacts of breeding, feeding and handling on the quality of your steaks, and learn where different cuts of meat come from and why they need different cooking methods. The tour will cover all aspects of the meat industries from production to processing.
Next stop is the Waratah Hills Winery where owners Neil and Judy Travers will host a lunch of local Gippsland produce, overlooking their beautiful vineyard and surrounding hills. With a passion for food, wine and good company Waratah Hills is a welcoming vineyard, located on the road to Wilsons Promontory
For Neil and Judy, their absolute focus is the production of exceptional Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sparkling and Rosé. The vineyard was planted 15 years ago in the Burgundy style of low trellising and close planting and there is a hands on approach to vineyard management (from picking through to pruning), and minimal intervention in their traditional wine making techniques. Hear their story, explore the vines and learn how they make beautiful wine.
We finish the day with a visit to Golden Creek Olives. Lyn and Andrew Jamieson craft award winning Australian Extra Virgin Olive Oil from their estate grown olives, with a passion for producing varietal oils of exquisite aromas and flavours to complement different foods and uses.
Since 1999, they have owned and operated their olive groves and processing facility, nestled in the rolling foothills in South Gippsland. Our region offers rich rewards with its extra virgin olive oils having crisp, fresh flavours and aromas associated with cool climate conditions.
